Now that you know more about the Colombian drug dealer it is time to talk about his cartel called, the Medellin Cartel.
The Medellin Cartel was an organized network of drug suppliers and smugglers originating in the city of Medellin, Colombia. This drug cartel operated in many Central and South American countries such as: Bolivia, Honduras, Peru, Colombia, and the US. Their main drug was cocaine, and they were founded and headed by: Pablo Escobar, Jorge Luis, Juan David, and Fabio. The Medellin Cartel brought at least US$420,000,000 per week. They were one of the most powerful cartels in the world.
In 1982, cocaine surpassed coffee as an export, making up 30% of all Colombian exports. This cartel killed many important people, most of them participated in arresting Pablo Escobar or other people important to the cartel. They also made important attacks like the one to the DAS headquarters and the plane bombing that were before mentioned.
The government wanted to dismantle the cartel so badly that the police teamed up with the Cali Cartel, which we are going to talk about later, to stop the Medellin Cartel. They teamed up defeating the cartel leaders and their other members. The cartel isn’t inactive, but it is not the most powerful today.
